Our Commitment to Transparency

Transparency is inherent in our commitment to serve the patient by creating a vibrant, inventive and ethical culture that will help people lead better, fuller lives today, tomorrow and well into the future. Shire is committed to responsible sharing of clinical study data.

Shire's Other Policies

Compassionate Use Policy

In general, Shire believes that participating in clinical studies is the best way for patients to access medicines prior to approval. In some extreme circumstances when this is not possible, patients with life-threatening diseases or conditions may seek special access to investigational medicines outside of a clinical study setting. Our Responsibility to You

Taking an ethical and responsible approach that is in the best interest of our patients underpins our daily activities, and is core to how we approach our business. It always has been, and remains an important priority for us. To learn more about our commitment to Responsibility, please visit our corporate website.

Post-Study Conduct Policy

Shire believes our patients come first; we want to show our clinical study participants how much they are appreciated for their participation.  Shire launched a program in 2014 to make summarized study results for select studies available in plain language so participants are informed of the outcome of the clinical study in which they participated. Recently, Shire expanded its disclosure standards by making summarized study results available in plain language for certain studies over a pilot period - not only for patients, but also for the general public via Shiretrials.com.

Policy 70: Publication and access to clinical study data

Shire is committed to abide by the EMA’s policy on proactive publication of clinical study data in EU CTR (clinical reports and individual patient data) for centralized marketing authorization applications and post-authorization applications for existing centrally authorized medicinal products (extension of indication and line extension).
